| This Week: National Vegetarian Week Monday 18th May until Sunday 24th May is National Vegetarian Week. The week is designed to advocate the many benefits of vegetarianism. To support our college's commitment to ethical, sustainable and environmentally-friendly living there will be vegetarian additions to the buttery menu for everyday this week! That means veggie options at breakfast and an additional veggie option at lunch and dinner. There will also be collections for the Vegetarian Society (www.vegsoc.org) and information available for anyone who is thinking of going veggie. Think green. Think veggie! Time Change to Buttery Breakfast As of this week the buttery will run from 7.45am to 9.30am. Thats early enough to start a keen day of lectures or revision AND late enough to get back from the boathouse and still make breakfast. Either for a full english, (any 4 for £1.30 or any 8 for £2.30), or just for a good coffee and danish, come enjoy breakfast and start your day off well. Summer Project Opportunity - CKAN+, Department of Chemistry Dates: From 1st July (flexible) Duration: 10 weeks The Unilever Centre for Molecular Science Informatics are looking for two summer students to help develop a set of web services that will allow researchers and the wider community to easily find and create data sets with open licenses. This project will extend the capabilities of the open data registry CKAN (www.ckan.net/), which links to open data packages ranging from crystallographic structures to Shakespeare's works. It will involve working closely with software developers to test the applications, finding and opening data sets to add content to the system and directing the project priorities. No coding skills are necessary. Application for project funding is currently pending, if successful it will provide payment of £200 per week. Please contact Jenny Molloy (jcm80) on behalf of the team led by Prof Peter Murray-Rust and Dr Rufus Pollock for more details and to register your interest. Get Involved with the Open Knowledge Foundation The Open Knowledge Foundation (www.okfn.org/) is a not-for-profit organization that promotes knowledge that can be freely used, reused and redistributed, be it Shakespeare's sonnets, chemical crystal structures or Bulgarian budget data.
