Following discussions this week, Dr Dixon has agreed to lift all entertainment restrictions as of midnight on Saturday 13th February.
He has conceded that extending the ban would not help find the culprit of last term's vandalism. Furthermore, we were able to convince him that his current actions have served as sufficient deterrent. As a condition of the ban being lifted we agreed to introduce a fire safety training session for all incoming freshers as of Michaelmas 2010.
Additionally, Dr Dixon has agreed to advertise times when he is available for drop-in sessions in order that students having trouble getting permission for events can discuss any issues with him personally. These times will be posted on the QJCR website when available.
If anything, this issue has highlighted some major shortcomings in how the college deals with student discipline. Given that the SCR has now started to review the college's policies, it is our intention to push for a system which we feel is more adequate. Examples of the proposals we are considering submitting will be available to view on the QJCR website shortly and we would welcome any comments or suggestions.
